Snappy Ubuntu Core comes to Google Compute Engine

Canonical is delighted to announce the availability of snappy Ubuntu Core on Google Compute Engine, making the fastest Ubuntu now instantly accessible on the fastest cloud in the industry.

Ubuntu Core is the new “snappy” rendition of the world’s favourite cloud OS, with a very lean and secure base image that features transactional updates for both system and applications. Snappy Ubuntu is perfect for container-oriented deployments using technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

Robbie Williamson, VP Cloud Engineering at Canonical says; “Ubuntu Core is the leanest and most efficient version of Ubuntu for cloud deployments with a particular focus on docker and containers. We’re delighted to bring Ubuntu Core, with snappy packages, to Google Cloud Platform, which is widely recognised for its performance and Google’s emphasis on container technologies.”

The beta of Ubuntu Core will run throughout the current Ubuntu development cycle.
